Good communication is at the heart of any successful business. A seemingly simple change order could have a dramatic impact on a project’s outcome. So, if you’re currently working with a production company on a marketing/sales video, or are planning one for the near future, be sure to keep one important thing in mind: Know in advance exactly what you need from your production company.
My company was working on a project for a client last year and, like most clients, they wanted an estimated delivery date for all the DVD’s they ordered. Based on the number given I gave them a time frame of between two to four weeks. However, at the end of the last day of shooting, as we were about to walk out the door, they increased the quantity. Meeting the order was no problem, but I did inform the client that the quantity increase would delay the delivery time by approximately two more weeks. This development threw the proverbial monkey wrench into the gears, as they needed to have the DVD’s out by a particular date. To make a long story short, the project was completed, but not without some last-second scrambling. So, with any coporate project, make sure that all of your company’s needs are defined explicitly well in advance. Any minor changes could disrupt the overall completion date of your project and cause a lot of undue stress on both sides.
