It’s been a hectic few weeks here at Parc Entertainment. I’ve been working on several projects lately which have prevented me from posting. Currently I am in post-production on a commercial campaign which will start airing in January 2008. I will post more on that once everything has been approved by the client. For now, I would like to share some thoughts on a article I cam across recently.
There’s no denying that short films are hot right now. With all kinds of video sharing sites on the internet, people are creating content solely for web distribution. This article from the blog /Film talks about filmmaker/actor Eli Roth who plans to create an entire feature-length movie comprised entirely of trailers. Now, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I enjoy getting to the movies early so I can catch the previews, but it will be interesting to see if the movie-going public will sit through 90 minutes of trailers for movies that don’t actually exist.
This project, dubbed Trailer Trash, also got me thinking about the future of feature films. If this film is successful, could we see a trend of ”trailer” movies? Would that fad then evolve into a trend where we see short films being bundled together for wide commercial distribution? I actually like that idea. If I’m going to spend $8+ per ticket, it would be great to feel as though I’m getting my money’s worth. Imagine going to the theatres not to see one movie, but nine 10-minute shorts. Sure you can do the same thing at a film festival, but those only come around once a year, and it’s extremely difficult and expensive to travel the country visiting film festivals.
So what do you think? Where do you see this trend heading in the future? Do you like the idea of seeing several shorts at your local theatre?
